It’s ‘business as usual’ for Coventry classicist Jaguar Cars

Despite heaps of headline bad news earlier this year, reports Iain Robertson, Jaguar Cars is storming back with two new variants of the F-Pace SUV; one aimed at a sportier customer, with the other targeting enhanced standard equipment lovers.

Two distinctive special edition models have joined the popular F-Pace line-up; the performance-focused 300 Sport and the feature-packed Chequered Flag. In the meantime, updates to the entire F-Pace range also include the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard, while improvements to efficiency have seen CO2 emissions reduced by as much as 8g/km.

The 300 Sport comes with a choice of two 296bhp AWD engine options: the 2.0-litre Ingenium turbo-petrol, which develops 295lbs ft of torque and the 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel, with access to 516lbs ft. Their respective performance figures are 0-60mph in 5.8s and 6.4s, with top speeds of 145mph and 150mph. Naturally, the mid-range punch of the diesel will be of major appeal to those buyers needing it.

Model identifiers for the 300 Sport include 22.0-inch diameter grey alloy wheels and distinctive Dark Satin Grey exterior detailing, which starts with the front grille surround, extends to the side windows, side vents, mirror caps and door finishers, as well as the rear valance. 300 Sport badges are applied to the front grille and rear tailgate and it is available White, Silver or Black paint finishes. Inside there is yellow contrast stitching on the instrument panel, centre console and leather seats, while the 300 Sport logo is emblazoned on the treadplates, carpet mats and steering wheel and is also embossed on the front headrests. With £8,430 of added extras over the petrol R-Sport but at a price less than £5,000 more, the value proposition is clear.

The Chequered Flag alternative is based on the R-Sport model and comes with a distinctive exterior that includes a sport front bumper and striking Gloss Black detailing on the front grille, door cladding, side vents and roof rails. A set of 20.0-inch Gloss Black alloy wheels are standard, the car being available in white, black and a new shade of Eiger Grey. The cabin has a seamless blend of luxurious upholstery and crafted detailing. Occupants also benefit from a range of features that include 10-way electric front seats, panoramic roof, Touch-Pro Navigation and infotainment, Meridian Sound System and reconfigurable 12.3-inch Interactive Driver Display as standard. There is a broader range of 2.0-litre AWD powertrains in both petrol and diesel forms in value-added form.

The F-Pace’s high torsional rigidity allows its F-Type-derived double wishbone front and Integral Link rear suspension to deliver a competent driving experience. Torque Vectoring is standard to enhance agility and responsiveness. In its most efficient form (160bhp RWD 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel), up to 46.8mpg and a lowly 140g/km of CO2 are attainable. Alternatively, the astonishingly quick, SVR version boasts a 5.0-litre 545bhp Supercharged V8 petrol engine.

List-priced from £36,820 (pre-discounts), the special edition models are available from (Chequered Flag) £46,995, to (300 Sport) £53,980.
