Revised Nissan Navara makes the best pickup even better

Featuring an array of upgraded technologies, the Navara is top of the class in the pick-up truck sector, states Iain Robertson, supported by an industry-leading, pan-European 5 years/100,000-miles warranty as part of a compelling proposition.

Both business owners and families should be reassured by the Navara’s improved efficiency, helped with an all-new and smoother six speed manual gearbox (7-speed auto optional). Important suspension changes, which include second-gen 5-link rear-end, improve the ride, handling and comfort of the vehicle, while front and rear disc brakes provide assured stopping power. The truck’s payload has increased and, thanks to Intelligent Trailer Sway Assist technology, towing safety has also been improved.

A more efficient 2.3-litre, 160bhp bi-turbodiesel engine (now in either 160, or 187bhp forms) is now capable of up to 40.9mpg, with CO2 emissions starting from 182g/km. It features the adoption of steel pistons and carbon-coated piston rings, as well as a lower compression ratio. The fuel injection system pressure has increased from 2000 to 2200 bar with a new pump, for greater precision and efficiency. The water-cooling system has been updated and a new exhaust system integrates Diesel Particle Filter (DPF) and Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technologies, providing a more compact design with lower NOx emissions.

Improved comfort and control with zero compromise on load hauling ability, the King Cab model sees an increase in payload to 1,165kg (and a permissible total weight of 3,200kg). The Double Cab is hiked to 1,115kg/1,180kg (taking power outputs into account; a total weight of 3,250kg). Better steering, with lighter and more comfortable handling for low-speed manoeuvres, allied to a 25mm lift in rear suspension and 2-stage coil springs, enhance the vehicle posture, which now has a more potent stance.

Intelligent Emergency Braking, Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control and Intelligent Around View Monitor are all features that cement the Navara’s status as an all-purpose pick-up packing the latest technology. A revised NissanConnect system, with Alliance In-Vehicle Connectivity (A-IVC), means a major hardware and software overhaul that has improved connectivity levels, via a new 8.0-inch high resolution touchscreen with faster response times.

The Navara also sees the addition of the NissanConnect Services app, featuring a telematics control unit and built-in 4G device that allows data to be shared without a separate phone connection. Embedded TomTom Maps combine with over-the-air updates to ensure mapping is accurate in real time, alongside live traffic information, 3D maps, weather information and Google Satellite and Street View visuals. The new system is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, delivering the seamless connectivity expected by today’s consumers.

The upgraded Navara represents an evolution of the pick-up’s rugged and contemporary aesthetic. As well as a more purposeful posture, from its improved suspension, rugged new wheel designs are also applied across the Navara range, their diameters increased to 17.0-inches on lower trim grades. Higher grade models feature updated LED headlamps, with a high gloss black inner shell replacing the previous chromed design elements. The Navara continues to include the much-vaunted, pan-European 5 years/100,000-miles warranty as standard.

MSG Summary

While firms can benefit from the taxation advantages of pickup trucks, the private buyer also gains from go-anywhere accessibility and, in the Double Cab versions, five seat practicality.
